Seasonal Allergies

Chiropractic Approach to Allergies

Seasonal issues that people deal with are starting to return. The problem with allergies is how the body reacts to them. Essentially, allergies are an overreaction of the body to given stimuli. That could be pollen, animal fur, dander, dust, and multiple other triggers. However, the commonality is that the body goes into hyper-drive to eliminate the allergen. That comes in inflammation, stuffy nose, sinus pressure, sneezing, and everything typical of congestion and allergic reactions.

Allergies Aren’t a Bacteria or Disease

Many folks think allergies involve something contagious or caught, like the flu. In reality, we all have the potential to be allergic to something. The body’s immune system is designed to react quickly to invasion. That happens at the microscopic level and generally involves white blood cells that flood to the source of the problem and kill off the pathogen. However, other reactions also help slow down the progress of an invasion through excessive mucus, inflammation, constricted breathing, increased temperature, and similar. Unfortunately, when the body can’t regulate a reaction or over-reacts to simple stimuli, such as pollen, then an allergy occurs.

Because the body reacts to common items as problems, it is highly alert. That triggers the release of histamine, which generally pervades the lungs, sinuses, and eyes. We realize it as burning, itchy eyes, hard breathing, sneezing, and nose-blowing.

Chiropractic Help for Allergies

Our chiropractor can treat patients with allergies regularly. Allergies represent a malfunction in the normal function of the body, ergo, the over-reaction. Our chiropractor focuses on the body’s internal communication system once it goes haywire, and then they target how to correct that blockage or misfire for proper response. One of the most effective ways to deal with an allergy reaction via histamine is to release cortisol, the hormone that turns off the histamine reaction. Cortisol is produced by the adrenal gland, which produces adrenaline for a fight or flight reaction.
